It is tax season which means millions of Americans are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their Federal income tax refunds. Many people take their refunds to make larger purchases such as a down payment on a car, new TV, or vacation. Are you waiting for your tax return? The IRS has a website that lets you check the status of your return and the anticipated date of your direct deposit of tax refund check.
According to the IRS, a typical e-file refund should be expected within 10-21 days. To check the status of your return you can visit the IRS's Where's My Refund page.
In order to check the status of your refund you will need to know your Social Security Number, Tax Filing Status, and the amount of your refund. It takes 72 hours from the initial e-file submission to have your status available and up to 4 weeks if you mailed in your return. If there are any issues there may be a messages asking you to contact the IRS to resolve the matter. You will need to know your exact return amount otherwise the system will not tell you when to expect your money.
